Abstract:

Welded constructions are vulnerable to tensile residual stress, which compromises their structural integrity. Welded constructions may have a decrease in fracture toughness and fatigue life due to undesirable tensile residual stress. Reduced tensile residual stresses in the weld zone may be achieved by using low transformation-temperature (LTT) fillers, which introduce compressive residual stresses as a result of previous martensitic transformation
